Resumen
Se buscó describir el estado de salud mental y las estrategias de afrontamiento manifestadas durante y después del asalto, diferenciadas según el sexo, en personas víctimas de asalto a mano armada en la ciudad de Medellín, en Colombia, entre Octubre de 2006 a Marzo de 2007. Los participantes fueron 50 personas adultas de ambos géneros, a quienes se les aplicó la entrevista clínica International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) y el protocolo de caracterización de asalto a mano armada diseñado por los investigadores. Se compararon los promedios de hombres y mujeres con relación al estado de salud mental y a las estrategias de afrontamiento utilizadas durante y después del asalto. La presencia de variables clínicas por categoría diagnóstica no presentó diferencias significativas entre hombres y mujeres, quienes presentaron alteración en el estado de salud mental con síntomas del Trastorno por Estrés Postraumático Actual y Trastorno por Angustia alguna vez en la vida. Se encontraron diferencias significativas entre hombres y mujeres en las estrategias de afrontamiento durante y después del asalto, durante el asalto, las mujeres reaccionaron en estado de inmovilidad y/o mutismo y los hombres con agresiones físicas o verbales; después del asalto, las mujeres, a diferencia de los hombres, requirieron apoyo psicológico y compañía de otras personas, los hombres utilizaron dispositivos de seguridad.
