Abstract

This reflection article is the result of research: The future University in Colombia, which set out, among other objectives, to conduct a prospective analysis of the future of the Colombian university within the framework of three essential questions: what to teach? How to teach? And when to teach? in a 10-year scenario. From a qualitative approach, some surveys and interviews were given to teachers and students from 10 Colombian public and private universities in 5 cities: Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, Cartagena and Manizales. As a result, the analysis was focused on two of the survey questions, namely, 1. In what areas should the University of the Future in Colombia focus to develop professionals? And 2. In which personal competences should the University of the Future mainly form? It is argued that there is a need to implement a training in emotional intelligence and to create a more inclusive university, which opens its doors to the variety of agents that will leave the sphere of conflict and join the civil society, so to be able to open itself towards tolerance to be carried out. In this sense, the incorporation of intrapersonal, emotional and spiritual intelligence is suggested, as a possibility for developing the transcendent dimensions of its students, regardless their religious beliefs.
