Las interacciones entre el sistema inmune y el sistema nervioso han sido objeto de investigación en los últimos años, quizás parte de ello se debe al descubrimiento y reconocimiento de las múltiples funciones que realizan las citoquinas en el sistema nervioso central (SNC), desde mediadores de procesos neuropatológicos hasta degeneración y reparación en el SNC
