Scope

The Revista Ciencias Humanas is an annual Latin American journal of academic and cultural dissemination related to the human and social sciences. It considers for publication unpublished and original manuscripts on research advances, reflections, bibliographical reviews, analytical reviews of books, and case studies, among others, in an agile form and with a style and tone open to all audiences, to bring science and culture closer to knowledge.

Thematic specialty (focus)

As an academic journal, it includes articles on law, education, psychology, sociology, journalism, communication, history, literature, philosophy, ethics, religion, art, and other areas related to the human and social sciences.

Target audience

Professionals, researchers, teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, and the public are interested in the advances and thematic discussions on human and social sciences.

Author

Any creator of unpublished writings or articles derived from scientific, literary, or cultural analysis, academic, research, or artistic projects or processes in areas and topics related to the human and social sciences.

Types of articles

The Revista Ciencias Humanas publishes academic, literary, or cultural articles derived from a research concern, an academic reflection, a cultural event, or a philosophical position, which have the purpose of generating critical thinking or putting in dialogue current problems or needs for the understanding, discussion, and construction of knowledge. For a more detailed review, see Guide for Authors.

Documents not to be published

Proceedings of events or congresses, papers, bibliographies, institutional bulletins, obituaries, translations, or documents already published in printed format, in repositories, on the web or in any digital media; opinion columns or similar, case reports, abstracts or articles on subjects other than human and social sciences will not be published.

Proposal submission process

This is managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) and begins with evaluating the proposal in light of the journal's policy (submission review). Manuscripts that pass this stage are sent to at least one external double-blind peer reviewer (peer review). If the evaluation is positive, the authors are notified so that they can proceed with the corrections indicated by the peer(s); once this step is completed, the article is corrected and laid out for subsequent publication. If the evaluation is negative, the process ends with the rejection. For a more detailed review, see Editorial Process. Editorial Process.

Similarity or coincidence control

Articles submitted to the journal are reviewed by the Turnitin similarity platform to safeguard copyrights, preserve quality, and promote ethics in scientific publications. The percentage of similarity is only a reference data with other published papers (it is not understood as plagiarism). In this sense, it will be the editorial committee who, with prior analysis of such information, will determine the rejection or continuity of the process. This decision, which may be appealed, will be notified by the editor to the authors and accompanied by the similarity report. Authors should inform the editor if the articles were previously reviewed by a similarity program and deposited or stored in its repository (some platforms store the reports in their databases). The recommendation is to configure the program so that the reviews are without deposit to avoid confusion, delays, or possible rejections.

Peer review

Every article that complies with the editorial policy is submitted to an evaluation by at least one double-blind peer reviewer (double anonymity: neither authors nor peers know each other's identities). This method reduces the probability of bias (e.g., based on gender, country of origin, academic background, publication history, authors' prestige, etc.). Peers should be knowledgeable about the subject matter of the article, with doctoral or master's degree training, and active in academic publication or scientific production. These reviewers must declare that there are no conflicts of interest and be subject to the journal's policy. For a more detailed review, see Review Policy.

Ethical norms

Any academic, scientific, literary, or cultural production has an important social commitment. For this reason, the Revista Ciencias Humanas will demand that the proposals comply with quality standards and will ensure that the editing processes are carried out with transparency. It will also ensure the ethical declarations of the authors, their conflicts of interest, compliance with authorship criteria, and respect for intellectual property rights. The journal follows the guidelines of the Council of Scientific Editors (CSE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). For a more detailed review, see Ethics Policy.

Format, language, and periodicity

The Revista Ciencias Humanas is published online and carries out its editorial processes through the Open Journal Systems (OJS), a platform in which its contents are available in PDF and HTML. It receives articles in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, regardless of the origin or place of origin of the authors. It is published annually.

Open access

Anyone who wants to access the content of the Revista Ciencias Humanas can do so immediately, without registration, subscription, or payment requirements. The journal is committed to open access to have a positive impact on society, respond to current problems and needs, and facilitate the discussion of scientific advances.

Creative Commons License

The journal allows its articles to be shared in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution -non-commercial-non-derivative license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). This type of license allows the unloading of articles and their communication, as long as the authorship is acknowledged, their contents are not modified and they are not used for commercial purposes.

Assignment of rights

Authors who publish in the Revista Ciencias Humanas must sign the assignment of copyright to the Universidad de San Buenaventura Cali. The editorial team will ensure that their names and affiliations are clearly and precisely located in the article and are kept as such in all metadata, with clear respect for moral rights.

Digital preservation

The journal preserves its information through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). It also makes backup copies periodically and keeps them in external equipment, according to the security protocols established by the Universidad de San Buenaventura Cali.

Self-archiving

The journal allows authors to self-archive published articles (that have completed all the editing processes) in institutional repositories, thematic repositories, or personal web pages. It is requested that in each place where the self-archiving is found, a direct link to the journal is left, the corresponding credits are given and the metadata of the article is handled correctly.

Publishing institution and financing model

The Revista Ciencias Humanas is financed by the Universidad de San Buenaventura Cali, a non-profit institution of higher education. The journal does not charge authors for the processing of their articles (Article Processing Charge -APC-) but expects from them an active participation in the processes of editing, dissemination, and diffusion of its contents.
