El Doctor Invincibilis, el Venerabilis Inceptor, el Doctor Singular, Guillermo de Surrey, el profesor oxfordiano, el cuarto maestro de la escuela franciscana, el maestro de profesores, el franciscano de Oxford, el doctor de la Orden Franciscana, el pensador bisagra, el filósofo de transición, el último escolástico y el primer moderno, el príncipe de los nominalistas o simplemente, como se le conoce, Guillermo de Ockham, es un personaje que une dos culturas limítrofes en el tiempo, pero muy distantes en sus intenciones y propósitos; un pensador de transición que por el cambio de época en que le toca vivir encarna lo antiguo y se lanza a la via modernarum. De ahí que resulte un personaje muy discutido, incomprendido y con criterios opuestos, lo que da lugar a la disparidad de interpretaciones sobre su vida y sus obras..
