La cooperación, definida de manera general como un comportamiento que conlleva un beneficio a otros, es un fenómeno extendido en la naturaleza, sin ser exclusivo de los humanos. Los beneficios de la cooperación son incuestionables, este comportamiento provee estrategias que facilitan la adaptación y constituyen el núcleo de las dinámicas organizacionales actuales. Si bien la cooperación tiene su raíz en la evolución humana como un comportamiento que favoreció la supervivencia, la transformación de los roles sociales sugiere leer la fuerza de la cooperación más allá del altruismo reciproco.
